This restaurant, formerly under different ownership as The Springhouse, is located on Spring Street in Newton, NJ. The new owners are just getting the place launched, and right now they are BYOB until the end of January when they should have their liquor license. In the meantime, it's well worth visiting! We stopped by on our way to a different restaurant. I'd heard through the grapevine that the place had reopened, and just had to see what was happening. What I found was lovely decor, a friendly wait staff (and management...even the chef came out to greet us), and great food! Spring Street Pub & Grill will be a lively competitor for Andre's and Dre's, Trinity, and the other high-quality town center eateries, and I'd suggest giving them a try for a pre-show dinner before you head to the Newton Theatre. The menu offers a range of dishes from pub-style through the standards, and it includes a fantastic Sauerbraten among its German offerings. I didn't think anyone could outdo the current German bastion, but this sauerbraten with red cabbage and potato pancake (or spaetzel, if you prefer) was so good I'd have had seconds if that wouldn't have seemed a bit piggy. My dinner partner was equally pleased with the Jager Schnitzel. But I'm ahead of myself as I didn't mention the superb appetizer special, Eggplant Napoleon. And I don't want to ignore the lovely dessert special, Bananas Foster that was a perfect ending. I don't know of many local restaurants that serve Bananas Foster, so this was a rare treat. And done beautifully, I might add. I recommend that you try the place while it's still barely open and before you'll need reservations to get in on a weekend night. Definitely worth the trip! Parking in the lot behind the building is easy and free in case you can't find a spot on the street. And there's something on the menu for everyone, including junior humans who are hard to please.

The German food is amazing. They sell other foods, including beautiful looking burgers, but the German food is so good I keep ordering it every time and never get to anything else! The French Onion soup is also wonderful. I have also found all the staff to be super friendly and helpful.

The food is outrageously delicious! Who is this chef??? How they keep the prices as low as they do is beyond me!! Service is also great. Just have to overlook the location of this fabulous restaurant.

I had the pork rollatini special and it was delicious! Even just the simple side salad was well made and super yummy.

The food is excellent. I had the German combo meal. I was like my mother in law from Germany made it at home and put it in front of me for dinner. Perfect all 3 times I had it. The service is also great.

We had 4 entrees around $16-$17 dollars and 2 desserts. Everyone liked their meal. Spring Street is becoming a 1 way but there is parking in the back of the restaurant.

We liked all of our food- tasty salad which was not overdressed like so many restaurants, Shrimp Wellington and a veal special as entrees. Everything was good, including dressing, sides and sauces. Tuxedo Bombe was a delicious shared sweet hit at the end of the meal. Portion sizes are generous. We will definitely return.

Excellent food and value. My husband had the saurbraten and I had the orange roughy. Best fish I've had in years—amazing! He was equally impressed with his entree. Even something as simple as the house salad was exceptional. BYOB and enjoy!! :-) Add the Spring Street Linguini to the list of awesome choices!!

A great dinner, had the "bang bang shrimp" and the pretzel crusted crab cake as an appetizer. They were great. For dinner we had the shrimp Fra diavilo (excuse the spelling) Tilapia with shrimp and spinach for the Mrs. The service and food was wonderful we'll be back.

We drove again, over 50 minutes, to experience this exceptional menu. Well worth the trip! We have eaten in many a "fine dining" establishment, this pub's chef blows most of them right out of the water. The food is delicious and creative. How they manage this food at such value prices, I do not know. Can't wait to return.

Came here out of curiosity. What a great find this place was great! The food was first class and the staff was super nice. I had the pretzel crusted crab cake appetizer $8 my bride had the sassy garlic shrimp $8. The veal gervazzi was outstanding, as well as the German combo. Nothing disappointing about my experience here. I will definitely be back!!!!

We happened upon this restaurant when looking for a place to have dinner in Newton. Although it turned out to be a BYOB while the owner was waiting for his license to arrive, we were not disappointed by the fact that they did not serve alcohol. We were extremely happy with our meal. The service was excellent and our server, David, could not have been more accommodating. Will definitely go back.
